School Business Manager Hours: 35 hours per week (all year round), Monday to Friday Salary: £50,574 - £53,607 Commencing: September 2025Location: Greenwich Following the retirement of the existing School Business Manager, the primary school is seeking someone who is passionate about:Making a difference to pupils' livesHelping children succeed and achieve their ambitionsSupporting school staff by ensuring resources are in place to deliver an innovative and exciting curriculumGrowing the school’s income, including developing innovative funding streamsAbout the School The primary school is a dynamic, creative, highly motivated, and passionate team based in the heart of historic Maritime Greenwich. The school serves a close-knit and truly diverse community, providing a rich, inspiring, and fully inclusive curriculum. The specialist provision for deaf children is wholly integrated, and all members of the community learn British Sign Language.The school has a strong partnership with two other schools, and business managers meet together to support the work of individual schools and to drive partnership initiatives. About the Role As the Business Manager, you will be a key strategic leader in the school, responsible for the effective and efficient use of resources. You will support the Headteacher and Governors in strategic planning and decision-making. Job Responsibilities Financial ManagementPrepare, monitor, and report on the school budgetEnsure financial systems and procedures comply with statutory and local requirementsManage payroll, banking, and invoicing processesOversee financial audits and ensure timely submission of statutory returnsHuman Resources & Personnel ManagementSupport recruitment, induction, and retention of staffOversee contracts, payroll, and staff absence managementEnsure compliance with HR policies and employment lawAdvise senior leaders on staffing and workforce planningPremises & Facilities ManagementOversee maintenance, health & safety, and security of all school sitesEnsure compliance with safeguarding, fire safety, and building regulationsManage contractors and service providersAdministration & OperationsEnsure efficient administrative systems and processesSupport operational planning for school events, trips, and daily routinesMaintain accurate records and reporting systemsGovernance & Strategic SupportProvide financial and operational information to the Headteacher and GovernorsContribute to strategic planning and decision-makingEnsure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirementsIncome Generation & FundingIdentify and develop income-generating opportunities, including grants and partnershipsManage lettings, fundraising initiatives, and community engagement projectsOther ResponsibilitiesAct as a key point of contact for external stakeholdersLead and develop office and administrative staff where applicableSupport the Headteacher in implementing school policies and initiativesWhat the School OffersA collaborative and supportive working environmentLinks with several Business Manager networks and communitiesOpportunities for professional development both locally and beyondSafeguarding The primary school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
