Dance&Arts LTD is seeking a creative and patient Knit & Stitch Instructor to lead our afterschool club in a primary school in Hackney, North London. This role is ideal for someone who loves textile crafts, enjoys working with children, and wants to share their passion for knitting, stitching, and fibre arts.You will deliver engaging sessions that teach the fundamentals of knitting and basic stitching, encouraging students to develop fine motor skills, focus, and a sense of accomplishment in a relaxed, inclusive setting. The position is paid and suitable for both experienced craft tutors and enthusiastic new teachers eager to develop their skills in an educational environment. ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver dynamic knitting and basic stitching sessions suitable for Year 4 to Year 6 pupils.Demonstrate and explain fundamental techniques (e.g., casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, basic embroidery).Inspire students to choose and complete simple, achievable projects (e.g., scarves, small squares, simple patches).Adapt teaching methods to different learning speeds and abilities, ensuring individual support for each child.Maintain a positive, supportive, and focused classroom atmosphere conducive to concentration.Manage and organize knitting and stitching materials effectively.Communicate effectively with school staff and the Dance&Arts coordination team.Follow safeguarding and health & safety standards. Experience and SkillsExperience teaching, tutoring, or working with children preferred.Strong proficiency and knowledge in knitting and basic hand stitching suitable for this age group.Excellent communication and classroom management skills, especially in a focus-intensive activity.Patient, reliable, and passionate about inspiring young learners through craft.Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).Experience or qualifications in textile arts, crafts, or education are desirable but not required.
