FINANCE MANAGER
Job Description
• Direct reporting to the Director of the Company
• Act as a true business owner being self-starter, clear and concise communicator, comfortable with decision making and calculated risk taking in the incomplete data environment
• Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions
• Oversee financial department employees, including financial assistants and accountants
• Contract and manage outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs as necessary
• Perform in depth analysis of omnichannel revenue and expenses with the objective to understand performance metrics, strategize areas for cost improvement, and optimize omnichannel revenue
• Perform month-end accounting close, including expense accruals, journal entries, and P& L variance analysis with emphasis on margins and operating expenses
• Profit margins management - use sophisticated analytical methodologies to manage and optimise profit across all product categories
• Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the company
• Research and analyse financial reports and market trends
• Build financial and operational infrastructure for top initiatives (models, reporting, trend analysis, etc.)
• Review financial data and prepare monthly and annual reports
• Present financial reports to senior management, shareholders, trade partners and clients in formal meetings
• Develop, manage, and improve operational expense models for monthly forecasts, long range plans, and annual/quarterly budget
• Assist in the creation and distribution of daily, weekly, and monthly sales/ expense/profit/performance reporting, allowing business partners to highlight key business driving indicators
• Support providing standardised reporting to reconcile actual expenses vs. budget across all departments and stores
• Support financial management needs of assigned departments and business partners
• Advance and clearly communicate business, financial and strategic analyses across the business
• Track the status and work with relevant Senior Management to examine current financial processes to identify areas of opportunity and improvement
• Provide insightful financial analysis to evaluate and identify business issues, risks and profitability opportunities. Sample projects include:
o Provide insights into month-over-month revenue/ cost changes or trends
o Build and oversee dynamic pricing strategy
• Complete ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and other special projects for all departments
• Develop reporting metrics and present data with a clear point of view so that insights can be used to help drive financial and operational strategy
• Any other essential functions that may occur from time to time as directed by supervisor
Requirement
Minimum 4 years experience in accounting, corporate finance or similar technical analytical role preferably with retail omnichannel experience
Minimum 2 years in BIG-4 Auditing
Bachelor' s degree required, with preference in accounting, finance, or another business-related field
Capacity to use rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions
Ability to effectively work on special projects that include a high degree of ambiguity
Advanced Excel skills are mandatory for this role. Must be a power user with financial model building skills. Comfortable with manipulating large volumes of data using macros, pivots, or lookups
Access or other database management experience
Experience working with large datasets and resourcefulness in obtaining data when clean and or complete information is not available
Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to effectively convey insights from analyses to senior leaders
Ability to drive complex projects to completion using effective project management, communication, and influence strong ownership of tasks/deadlines/projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English is necessary
Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail as well as excellent follow through. Demonstrates self-management and initiative
* Retail industry experience preferred
