Your New RoleIn your new role, you will provide expert guidance and support to the business in ensuring compliance with SHEQ management systems and legislative obligations. You will coach and mentor employees in the effective use of these systems, while monitoring their implementation through audits and inspections. By constructively challenging risk controls and their application, you will drive continuous improvement in health and safety practices. Your contribution will help strengthen the organisation's safety culture and support its commitment to SHEQ excellence. Additionally, you will work closely with the Divisional Head of SHEQ to support the delivery of strategic objectives.
What you will do
Act as a proactive SHEQ ambassador, promoting innovation and continuous improvement across divisions, depots, and sites.
Support the development and implementation of SHEQ policies, procedures, and risk controls to reduce risk and foster a positive safety culture.
Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to plan, review, and achieve SHEQ objectives and performance targets.
Conduct site visits to monitor SHEQ compliance, complete audits and inspections, and provide practical guidance on corrective actions.
Track and verify the effective closure of non-conformances to ensure meaningful improvements are delivered and sustained.
Assist in the preparation and review of RAMS, Job Packs, Construction Phase Plans, and delivery of related briefings and workshops.
Participate in client meetings, SHEQ forums, and project start-up workshops to ensure safe and compliant planning and execution.
Lead or support incident investigations and SHEQ assurance audits, providing expert advice and escalating high-risk issues as needed.
The Skills You Bring
NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (minimum) and IOSH membership
Internal auditor qualification and strong environmental awareness
Experience in a similar SHEQ role, ideally within utilities, infrastructure, or construction
Strong knowledge of SHEQ legislation, systems, and best practice implementation
Proven ability to plan, assess, and support safety compliance across projects or programmes
Skilled in developing, reviewing, and updating risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
Confident in coaching, influencing, and supporting internal and external stakeholders at all levels
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong IT proficiency (MS Office)
Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team
Flexible and mobile, with a commitment to outstanding customer service and a safety-first mindset
