A bit about us:
Our new nursery will be an integral part of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School which is a small school with mixed age classes in both EYFS / Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We are located in the middle of the bustling market town of Malmesbury, Wiltshire. We have a close relationship with our local community, St Aldhelm’s Catholic Church and although close to the centre of town, have a unique “village school” feel.
Our children are happy, motivated, and keen to learn. Our school environment is a well thought out fusion of traditional school building alongside recently renovated sections that are uniquely sited on part of Malmesbury’s ancient Iron Age fortifications. Recent work to install green technology, alongside our extensive riverside outdoor spaces, reflects our spiritual desire to care for God’s creation and the children’s access to an outdoor learning environment and places for reflection and spiritual growth.
We were rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2023 and were commended for enabling our pupils to thrive through our ambitious strategic plan that aimed to meet the needs of all, “Relationships between adults and pupils” were seen as “warm and nurturing.” ; “Pupils appreciate that staff know them well and care about them.” OFSTED (March 2023).
Our school mission is to “Walk in the footsteps of Jesus, loving and serving together” and as such we welcome applicants of all and no faith who feel they could support this as an underlying principle. What we ask of anyone who considers any of these roles is that when applying, and if appointed, they have a willingness to support the school’s Christian Catholic ethos and tradition through this mission.
All about the role:
A new nursery is coming to Malmesbury
We are seeking to appoint two or more people to make our dream of opening a new Governor led nursery in the town of Malmesbury a reality.
This opportunity has arisen following our success in securing government funding to open a nursery at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. Our new nursery will provide much needed spaces for two to four-year-old children in the Malmesbury area and is scheduled to open in September 2025. Our vision is that in addition to this, our new nursery will also add to the school’s provision for pre-school children and will give parents wider choice if they are looking for a setting that has a faith element to its ethos.
If you are, or aspire to be dedicated to high quality, child centred nursery provision, along with a desire to work as part of a tight and supportive team, we would love to hear from you.
About the post we are seeking to create, we are looking to appoint the following post:
Nursery Assistant (Wiltshire Council Support Staff Grade D). 28 hours 40 minutes.
We will consider applicants seeking to work either part or whole days and ask that this is stated clearly in your application.
It is also our goal that further positions will become available as the nursery grows. As a founding staff member, we see this as an opportunity for further professional development and the chance to be part of an exciting development team.
Staff employed to work in the nursery would be the employees of the governors, and, like all other staff are seen as equal partners in the school team and would be central to the welfare, wellbeing and provision in the school
We do not see the nursery as separate to the school. The nursery would be an integral part of our school and the children and staff in the nursery would be part of the St Joseph’s family.
If being part of our team is something that interests you, we are looking for someone who:
Is excited about learning and creating stimulating learning opportunities,
Is committed to inclusive education, raising achievement and wants to make a difference to the lives of all children,
Is fully supportive of our Christian catholic ethos and values,
Is approachable and seeks to foster good relationships between the home and school,
Has a committed work ethic,
Will work as part of our strong team,
Will support the wider activities of the school,
Has an excellent understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and child centred assessment
Is flexible and has a good sense of humour
In return, we can offer the benefits of:
A school with a caring, Christian and supportive ethos,
Enthusiastic and happy children,
Working in a small town school with positive parental relationships, a supportive governing body, local church and wider community,
A hard-working, driven, motivated and friendly staff team,
Professional development opportunities within the school, within our local school collaboration and across Wiltshire
We welcome applicants
From any and no faith provided they are willing to support and promote the school’s Christian ethos and support the school’s catholic foundation.
Who may consider undertaking the Nursery Assistant role as part of a job share or part time position. Internal applicants should state this clearly in their letter of intent and external candidates should state this clearly in their letter of application. Job share applicants will be interviewed individually and alongside each other
