Targeted Housing Adviser - £20 per hour (Umbrella) Location: Sutton, London Pay Rate: £20 per hour (paid via umbrella) Start Date: ASAP End Date: 3+ month contract (potential for extension) Hours: 36 per week Are you an experienced Housing Adviser with in-depth knowledge of housing legislation and a passion for helping vulnerable individuals? The London Borough of Sutton is seeking a Targeted Housing Adviser to join their Housing Advice, Information, and Assessment service on an interim basis. You'll play a key role in providing proactive housing advice and support to prevent homelessness and help service users live independently. Key Responsibilities: Manage a caseload of clients, delivering advice on housing options, tenancy rights, welfare benefits, and housing-related support services. Conduct assessments to determine eligibility for accommodation and services, ensuring compliance with housing legislation (including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Act 2002 & 2004). Develop person-centred action plans and provide tailored solutions to meet the needs of individuals and families. Provide clear and robust decision letters in line with legal requirements and best practices. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external partners to provide comprehensive support. Identify and mitigate risks related to client housing situations, escalating issues where necessary. Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery. Requirements: Significant experience providing housing advice and support, particularly in a local authority or public sector setting. Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Act 2002 & 2004. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex legislation to a variety of audiences. Proven ability to manage a caseload and work effectively in a customer-facing role. Strong decision-making and organisational skills, with a focus on delivering solutions. Ability to work in a hybrid environment, attending the office twice a week as required.
