Database Engineer – SQL Server | EdTech | £55,000–£65,000 | Hybrid - HuddersfieldI am working with a succesful EdTech company in Huddersfield who are looking for a skilled Database Engineer to help modernise, refactor, and optimise their core database systems. You’ll work on impactful projects that directly support thousands of users across the education sector.This role would someone with strong SQL Server expertise, database optimisation and design. Experience with NoSQL technologies (Cosmos DB, MongoDB) or exposure to AI/ML data use cases is a bonus, as the business continues to evolve toward intelligent, data-driven solutions.What you’ll be doing:Refactor legacy SQL Server databases to reduce technical debt and improve maintainabilityRewrite stored procedures and scripts using scalable, modern standardsMonitor and optimise performance across dev, staging and production environmentsTune queries, adjust indexing strategie and analyse execution plansAudit and align data across environments for consistency and accuracyDocument data flows, database structures, and changes clearly and accuratelyCollaborate with developers and DevOps to deliver solutions that align with business needsEnsure full compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act in all data handling(Bonus) Support future AI/ML integration using structured database outputsWhat you’ll bring:Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server (DDL, DML, stored procedures)Strong understanding of relational database design and data modellingProven track record in query tuning, indexing, and performance troubleshootingComfortable with Git version control workflowsExcellent attention to detail and ability to write clear documentationAwareness of data privacy and UK GDPR complianceExposure to AI/ML pipelines or interest in future integrationNice to have Experience with Visual Studio for database projectsFamiliarity with NoSQL technologies like MongoDB or Cosmos DBBackground in ETL processes, data warehousing, or BI solutionsPackage:£55,000 - £65,000, with some flexibility for the right candidate 25 days Holiday + bank with Christmas offPension Health insurance Hybrid Working
