This could be your calling.We’re working with several specialist SEMH primary provisions across Northumberland that are on the lookout for nurturing, resilient, and consistent Teaching Assistants to join their teams. These schools support children who’ve often faced tough starts—whether that’s trauma, unmet needs, or challenges in mainstream settings.They need trusted adults who can be a steady presence. Who listen without judgement. Who show up and stick around.The Role:
Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups with SEMH and additional needs
Building strong, trusting relationships to boost emotional regulation and classroom engagement
Assisting teachers with delivering adapted lessons and meaningful routines
Supporting behaviour positively using relational, trauma-informed approaches
Helping create a safe, inclusive space where every child feels they belong
The right person will:
Have experience with children or young people with SEMH, autism, or additional needs (in schools, care, or similar settings)
Bring strong communication and behaviour support skills
Be calm, consistent, and unshakeably patient
Understand (or be keen to learn about) trauma-informed and restorative practices
Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for one)
