SEN Teacher – Sunderland
Location: Sunderland Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (Term-time only) Start Date: January 2026
About the Role
We’re looking for a caring and adaptable SEN Teacher to join a dedicated specialist school in Sunderland. The role involves teaching pupils aged 7–19 with a variety of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD and speech and language difficulties.You’ll design and deliver engaging lessons that promote both academic progress and personal development — celebrating each small step of success and helping pupils build confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver creative, multi-sensory lessons adapted to pupils’ learning styles and needs
Support emotional and social development using positive behaviour management
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver individual education plans (IEPs)
Track and assess progress, maintaining clear communication with parents and carers
Contribute to a caring and inclusive school culture
Person Specification
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) or equivalent
Passionate about SEND teaching, ideally with experience in autism education
Strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
Positive, flexible approach and genuine commitment to pupil wellbeing
Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and SEN legislation

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
