Previous experience of working with pupils and students with Autism is highly desirable but not essential! You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside, according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising pupils as they explore further afield.This Mental Health Support Worker position provides an excellent entry to the field for people who are interested in Special Education. To support students who struggle with their class workFacilitate a fun and friendly learning environmentTo provide support to the class teacherTo help the class teacher prepare lesson materials and classroom boardsTo keep the classroom a tidy and presentable environmentTo encourage children to do their bestHelp manage classroom behaviourListen to the children read and practice their phonics
Qualifications & Skills required for Mental Health Support Worker:
Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essentialKnowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate effectively with parents and other professionals.A patient and nurturing approach to working with children.Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.
