SEND Learning Support Assistant – Year 5 ClassLocation: Walthamstow Salary: £95.83 per day (Pay review at 12 weeks) Start Date: December 2025 or January 2026 (Subject to DBS and clearance)Assignment Details Full-time role, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)Working hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PMLong-term roleSupporting Year 5 pupils with SEND, working 1:1 and in small groups within a mainstream classroom Applicants must have the right to work in the UK About the RoleConnex Education is working in partnership with a large, inclusive mainstream primary school in Waltham Forest to recruit a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support KS2 / Year 5 pupils with diverse SEND needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This full-time position begins in December or January and offers an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping older primary pupils prepare confidently for transition to secondary school. You will play a vital role in supporting engagement, emotional regulation, communication skills, and academic progress. Key Responsibilities Provide tailored support to help pupils access the Year 6 curriculum at an appropriate level.Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to reinforce learning, deliver interventions, and build independence.Adapt resources and learning tasks using visuals, simplified language, modelling and scaffolding.Support emotional regulation, behaviour and transitions throughout the school day.Implement strategies and recommendations from SEN professionals, including Speech & Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists.Use communication aids, prompts, visual schedules or alternative communication tools where needed.Support life skills, social development and preparation for secondary school.Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver support aligned with EHCP targets.Provide regular feedback on progress, behaviour and support strategies.Build positive working relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers. Person Specification Good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE English & Maths or equivalent).Experience working with children (essential).Experience supporting pupils with SEND (desirable but not essential with willingness to learn).Training or qualifications related to SEND are advantageous.Confident using positive behaviour management and engagement strategies.Patient, empathetic, and able to uphold dignity and independence at all times.A current DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex.
