6 Month Contract With A Local AuthorityRole PurposeTo provide a high-quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy service to adults in Barnet in line with the Council’s responsibilities under relevant legislation, departmental policies, and professional standards.The postholder will carry out professional Occupational Therapy assessments, support planning, and reviews with a strong focus on promoting independence, wellbeing, and achievable outcomes for adults and carers.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide timely, holistic and strengths-based Occupational Therapy assessments for adults with physical, sensory, and/or learning disabilities, older people, and carers.Develop personalised, outcomes-focused intervention plans to maximise independence, safety, and wellbeing.Recommend and arrange appropriate equipment, adaptations and/or rehabilitation programmes in line with assessed needs.Work collaboratively with service users, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams to support people to live as independently as possible.Identify, report and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with legislation and Barnet’s safeguarding procedures.Apply Making Safeguarding Personal principles in all safeguarding activity.Contribute to risk assessments and risk management plans to ensure adults at risk are protected and supported.Undertake strengths-based assessments and develop person-centred, outcomes-led care and support plans in line with the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework.Review care and support plans to ensure they remain appropriate, effective, and proportionate.Ensure the principles of wellbeing and prevention are at the heart of assessment, planning, and intervention.Provide clear, accessible information and advice to individuals and carers.Signpost to local community and preventative services to support resilience, independence, and social participation.Encourage service users to engage in self-management and utilise community resources.Work within HCPC standards of proficiency, professional conduct, and local policies and procedures.Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records in line with legal and organisational requirements.Participate in supervision, reflective practice, continuing professional development (CPD) and service improvement initiatives.Contribute to a positive team culture, supporting colleagues and sharing best practice.RequirementsDegree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.HCPC registration (or eligibility for registration).Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g., Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005).Experience providing Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to adults.Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and Making Safeguarding Personal.Knowledge of equipment, assistive technology, and home adaptation processes.Strong assessment, analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to build positive relationships with adults, carers, colleagues, and partner agencies.Excellent communication, both written and verbal.Ability to manage a varied caseload and work autonomously.Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
