Head Chef/CookFull-Time 40 hours a week Reporting to: Home ManagerJob purpose: To take responsibility for, organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with Environment Health Office regulationsSkills, Knowledge & QualificationsRequired:City & Guilds 706 – 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards)Team playerSatisfactory Policy Check and check against the PoVA listBasic Food Hygiene CertificateGood communication skillsAbility to work on own initiativeDesired:Intermediate Food Hygiene CertificatePrevious management or supervisory experienceExperience of food preparation for the relevant Service User groupMain responsibilitiesFood preparationPrepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as and when requiredProvided for special dietary requirements where necessary and take into account the preferences of individual Service UsersCommunicationLiaise with the Home Manager when planning/costing menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foodsParticipate in Staff and Service User meetings as requiredTraining and DevelopmentSupervise and instruct Kitchen Staff Members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriateConduct Basic Food Hygiene training for all Care Centre Staff involved in handling and delivery of foodMaintain and improve professional knowledge and competenceAttend mandatory training days/course, on or off site as and when requiredYou will be expected from time to time to assist in new staff members induction.Budgetary/Financial Control:Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer/fridge temperaturesEnsure stock rotation.Assist in the ordering of stocks and checking of deliveries, and check and value stocks as required by the Home ManagerHuman Resources (HR)Prepare Staff rota for KitchenInterview for new Staff Members with the Home Manager as and when required.Health & SafetyEnsure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area and dining areas is carried out effectivelyEnsure statutory Health & Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areasReport immediately to the Home Manager or Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service Users, colleague, self or anotherUnderstand, and ensure the implementation of the Care Centres Health & Safety policy and Emergency and Fire proceduresReport to the Home Manager, Handyperson or Person in Charge any faulty appliances, damaged furniture equipment or any potential hazardPromote safe working practice in the Care Centre.Infection ControlIt is your responsibility to read and understand the homes Infection control Policy and to ask questions that you may not understand?Complete the homes Infection Control TrainingReport any infection control issues immediately to your Home Manager, alert your person in charge.Share your knowledge and understanding of Infection Control with your work Colleagues to ensure the safety of all staff, visitors and residents.SafeguardingIt is every staff members responsibility to ensure that they have read and understood the homes Safeguarding Policy, and to ask questions for any areas they do not understand.Every staff member must complete the homes Safeguarding trainingStaff have an obligation to all residents to report any incidents that they feel may be a safeguarding issue to their manager or senior staff.It is every staffs responsibility to know the process for reporting safeguarding concerns to the local safeguarding teams, Contact numbers for this should be found posted around your home, if you cannot find them it is your responsibility to ask.GeneralPromote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Centre and BondcareEnsure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third partiesNotify the Home Manager or Person in Charge as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also on your return to work from all periods of absenceEnsure the security of the Care Centre is maintained at all timesAdhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescalesEnsure all equipment is clean and well maintainedCarry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to youThis Job Description indicates only the main duties and responsibilities of the post.
