Job Description and Person Specification Information Governance Manager Job Description Role Overview The Information Governance Manager will play a pivotal role in leading the information management workstream associated with the decommissioning of on-site modern records storage facilities. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to support the organisation in ensuring the appropriate handling, appraisal, and disposal of records, thereby safeguarding the Corporate Memory and supporting organisational change. Main Duties and Responsibilities Lead on the information management workstream for the decommissioning of on-site modern records storage facilities. Review and appraise records at the disposal stage of the lifecycle, with a view to their permanent preservation as part of the Corporate Memory. Collaborate with staff across the organisation to negotiate actions on physical records, including decisions on disposal and defining review dates. Provide expert advice on information governance and records management to support the effective decommissioning of modern records storage facilities. Physically handle records, including lifting, carrying, and moving boxes and files as required. Conduct information audits to identify records for retention, disposal, or transfer. Person Specification Essential Criteria: Substantial experience in a professional records management, information management, or information governance field. Substantial experience of selecting records for permanent preservation in accordance with archival principles. Substantial experience of managing document or records management systems. Excellent communication and negotiating skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organisation. Significant experience of driving successful improvements and change within complex environments. Significant experience of managing people to deliver transformational change. Significant experience in leading groups of people not under their direct control, demonstrating strong leadership and motivational skills. Ability to work on own initiative, demonstrating self-motivation and resilience. Ability to lift and carry boxes, and to work at height as required for the physical handling of records. Desirable Criteria: Project management experience, with a proven track record of delivering projects to time and budget. Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and high standards. Adaptable and flexible, able to respond positively to change and new challenges. Professional integrity and discretion, particularly when handling sensitive information. Additional Information The successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for records management and information governance, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a collaborative attitude. They will be instrumental in supporting the organisation’s transition as part of the decommissioning project, ensuring that records are managed responsibly and in accordance with best practice and legal requirements.
