2 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary:• Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced Personal Advisor (18+ Care Leavers Service) to join the Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) service on an interim basis due to recruitment challenges.• The role provides a statutory case-holding service to care leavers aged 18–25, supporting their transition from care to independent adulthood.• The postholder will work on a case management basis, coordinating and completing Pathway Plans, providing practical, emotional and aspirational support, and ensuring young people receive their full entitlements in line with legislation and local policy.• This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a service within a Good Ofsted-rated Trust committed to improving outcomes for young people.Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):• Manage a caseload of eligible, relevant, former relevant and qualifying care leavers aged 18–25.• Coordinate, prepare, implement and review Pathway Plans in partnership with young people and relevant professionals.• Support young people to prepare for independence, including accommodation, education, training, employment, health and wellbeing.• Act as a trusted Personal Advisor, building positive, professional relationships with young people, including those who may be difficult to engage.• Promote young people’s participation and voice in all aspects of assessment, planning and decision-making.• Work collaboratively with internal teams and partner agencies (housing, education, health, DWP, probation and voluntary sector).• Provide advice and guidance to other professionals regarding the needs of care leavers.• Maintain accurate, timely and secure case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.• Participate in duty/referral work and respond to emerging needs as required.• Promote anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice in all aspects of service delivery.Skills/Experience:• Substantial experience working with children and young people up to age 21–25, particularly care leavers or vulnerable young people.• Experience of case management and holding responsibility for individual caseloads.• Proven experience of inter-agency working with vulnerable or at-risk young people.• Knowledge of leaving care legislation, policy and best practice.• Ability to support young people with budgeting, benefits, housing and independent living skills.• Experience supporting access to education, training and employment opportunities.• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with young people and professionals.• Ability to work flexibly, manage competing demands and meet deadlines.• Commitment to equality, diversity and anti-oppressive practice.• Competent IT and administrative skills, including electronic case recording systems.• Willingness to undertake relevant training (including NVQ Level 3 where appropriate).Additional Information:• The closing date: 18/01/2026 @16:30.• Hours: 36.5 hours per week (08:45 – 17:15).• Location: One Avenue, Birmingham.• Enhanced DBS is required.
