Special Educational Needs Tutor Salary: £25 - £35 per hourJob Description The Special Educational Needs Tutor supports learners with diverse additional learning needs by delivering personalised educational support tailored to individual requirements. The role involves planning and implementing effective teaching strategies to facilitate progress and improve educational outcomes. The tutor works closely with learners to enhance their understanding, confidence, and skills in line with their specific educational targets.Key Responsibilities Assess the learning needs of students with special educational requirements and develop tailored lesson plans accordingly.Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition sessions that address specific gaps in knowledge or skills.Utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.Monitor and record progress regularly, providing constructive feedback to learners and relevant stakeholders.Adapt teaching approaches in response to ongoing assessment and feedback to maximise learner engagement and achievement.Support the development of learners’ social, emotional and communication skills where appropriate.Maintain accurate records of sessions, attendance and progress in accordance with organisational policies.Collaborate with educational professionals and families to ensure consistency of support.Promote an inclusive learning environment that respects and values diversity.Stay informed of current best practise and developments in special educational needs provision. Required Qualifications A recognised teaching qualification or equivalent experience in education or tutoring.Specialist knowledge or training in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or willingness to undergo one. Education A minimum of GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.Further qualifications related to education, child development, or SEND are advantageous. Experience Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs.Experience in delivering tailored educational support and monitoring progress.Familiarity with relevant educational frameworks and legislation concerning SEND. Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of a range of special educational needs and associated teaching strategies.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage learners effectively.Ability to adapt resources and teaching styles to meet individual needs.Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.Patience, empathy and a positive attitude towards supporting learners.Proficient in using educational technology and resources for tutoring purposes.Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding procedures. Preferred Qualifications Level 3 or higher qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCO) or related field.Experience working within a school or educational setting.Training in specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism spectrum conditions or speech and language difficulties. Working Conditions This is a temporary, part-time role with flexible hours to meet the requirements of learners.The role is primarily based in educational settings within Oxfordshire but may also involve remote tuition sessions.The post requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for learners at all times.Some travel within the local area may be necessary.Work involves regular interaction with children and young people who have diverse educational and support needs.
