Make a difference to local families in Southend-on-SeaAre you approaching retirement or recently retired and looking for a meaningful way to use your time, skills and life experience?Volunteers Supporting Families in Southend is looking for caring, reliable volunteers to support families who are facing challenges and need a steady, trusted presence in their lives. Since 2009, the project has helped families stay together and thrive, with the support of Southend Borough Council.About the roleAs a Volunteer Family Mentor, you’ll be matched with a local family and offer regular, one-to-one support in their home. This might involve listening, offering encouragement, helping parents think through challenges, or simply being a friendly and consistent face during a difficult time.You’ll usually visit the family once a week for around six months, at a time that works for you and the family.This is not about having all the answers — it’s about being there.Who this role is ideal forThis role is particularly well suited to people who:Are approaching retirement or already retiredHave time to commit regularly and reliablyEnjoy listening and supporting othersBring patience, warmth and life experienceWant to give something back to their local communityYou don’t need professional experience in social care — many volunteers find that their own life experience is one of their greatest strengths.The difference you’ll makeFamilies supported by the project may be experiencing issues such as isolation, mental or emotional ill health, substance misuse, or domestic challenges.
