The Role
ABC Teachers are looking for energetic and passionate Active SEND Support Practitioners to join specialist schools across Birmingham, supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), SEMH, SLD, and complex needs.This role is perfect for candidates who enjoy hands-on, dynamic support and want to make a real difference in pupils’ lives. You will work in small groups or 1:1, supporting learning, communication, emotional regulation, and physical activities such as structured play, PE, and outdoor learning.We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including education, youth work, care, therapy, sports coaching, or recent graduates looking to start a rewarding career in SEND education.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND
Assist pupils to access learning, communicate, and develop social skills
Support emotional regulation, behaviour strategies, and structured routines
Deliver active learning opportunities through play, physical activity, and outdoor learning
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement individualised plans
Ensure a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, ASC or complex needs (preferred but not essential)
A calm, patient, and resilient approach
Energy, creativity, and enthusiasm for active, hands-on support
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Training and CPD are available for candidates new to SEND or SEMH.
