Your new company Hays are delighted to assist our client with a role within the tax team for a tax technician. Our client has a valued client base and is a renowned training firm where employee development is paramount to the ethos of the firm. This role is based in our client's office in Greater Belfast and offers free parking. Your new role Key ResponsibilitiesTax CompliancePrepare personal tax returns (Self Assessment), including income, capital gains, and relief claimsPrepare corporation tax computations and returns for SMEs and owner-managed businessesAssist with VAT returns and related queriesSupport payroll tax work where required (PAYE, benefits in kind reporting such as P11Ds)Ensure all filings are completed accurately and in line with current tax legislation and deadlinesClient SupportLiaise with clients to gather financial information and resolve queriesRespond to basic client tax queries professionally and in a timely manner.Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and working papersLiaison with AuthoritiesDeal with routine correspondence and enquiries from HMRC (or relevant tax authority)Assist in resolving compliance queries and requests for informationTechnical Development & SupportResearch basic tax issues and prepare summaries for managers or partners.Assist with tax planning and advisory assignments as required.Keep up to date with changes in tax legislation and practiceGeneral Practice DutiesAdhere to internal processes, quality standards, and regulatory requirementsSupport other team members during peak periodsContribute to a collaborative and professional team environmentKey Skills & CompetenciesTechnical SkillsGood understanding of personal and/or corporate taxationAbility to prepare tax computations and returns with a high level of accuracyWorking knowledge of accounting and tax software (e.g. IRIS, CCH, Xero, Sage, Taxfiler)Competent in Microsoft Excel and other Office applicationsPersonal SkillsStrong attention to detail and numerical accuracyGood organisational and time-management skillsProfessional communication skills (written and verbal)Ability to manage workload and meet deadlinesWillingness to learn and develop technical knowledgeWhat you'll need to succeed Qualifications & ExperienceEssentialPrior experience in a tax or accountancy practice environmentBasic understanding of UK tax legislation (or relevant jurisdiction)DesirableStudying towards or holding ATT, AAT, ACA, ACCA, or CTA qualificationExperience with HMRC correspondence and online systemsExperience working with a portfolio of clientsCareer DevelopmentThe role offers structured progression within the tax team, with the opportunity to:Train towards professional tax or accountancy qualificationsDevelop advisory and planning experienceProgress into a Senior Tax Technician or Tax Associate roleValues & Professional StandardsCommitment to confidentiality and professional ethicsClient-focused and service-driven approachAccountability and integrity in all work What you'll get in return Competitive salary Free parking Handy office location in South Belfast What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.If this job isn't quite right for you, but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion about your career.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
