With a strong commitment to service excellence, sound financial governance, and long-term sustainability, this organisation offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that supports communities across the region.Your new role As Senior Finance Officer, you will take responsibility for the organisation's core financial operations while supporting the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to an experienced finance professional who enjoys ownership and accountability.Key responsibilities include:Managing day-to-day finance activities, including purchase ledger, nominal ledger, payroll administration, fixed asset updates, and banking tasks.Preparing monthly journals, accruals, prepayments, and conducting balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting.Leading the full payroll cycle, including statutory submissions, pension updates, and annual returns.Running supplier payments, bank reconciliations, investment reconciliations, and contributing to short-term cashflow forecasting.Developing and maintaining Excel-based reporting tools and financial models to improve accuracy and efficiency.Supporting contract and procurement processes by tracking expenditure and maintaining up-to-date registers.Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider finance team to uphold strong financial controls and ensure regulatory compliance.What you'll need to succeed Essential:AAT/IATI qualification or part-qualification with a recognised CCAB body.Experience producing accounts to trial balance level.Strong background in core finance functions including payroll, reconciliations, payment processing, and month-end reporting.High level of IT competency, especially in Excel, with the ability to develop models and streamline processes.Experience using finance and payroll software systems.Desirable:Experience working within social housing, the public sector, or any regulated environment.What you'll get in return £34,434 - £39,862 salaryGenerous annual leave entitlement plus 13 statutory holidaysHybrid working with flexible start and finish times10% employer pension contributionFree onsite parkingA stable, permanent role offering autonomy, progression, and the chance to contribute to a meaningful public sector serviceWhat you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.If this job isn't quite right for you, but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion about your career.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
