Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an Innovation Engineer with a background in the nuclear or defence sector to be engaged on a permanent basis in Whitehaven, with site visits 2/3 days a week.Job Purpose: To contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring technical excellence and practicality in applying engineering principles. Key Responsibilities: Design, test, and implement engineering solutions to improve processes, products, or systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals, including product management, manufacturing, and sales. Perform detailed calculations to establish standards and expectations. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Prepare and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. Conducted product testing and troubleshooting issues to ensure reliable product deployment. Manage project resources, schedule timelines, and prepare status reports to keep stakeholders informed. Continuously improve technical knowledge and skills by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies. Actively contribute to business development activities, including attendance at events. Manage and support all aspects of technical facilitation to elicit solutions and requirements for improvement initiatives. Support and take the lead on the establishment of new initiatives and capabilities for the business to establish market presence and growth. Skills and Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Engineering (a specific discipline may be required depending on the role, e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.). Proven experience in engineering design, development, and project management (including years of experience if specific tenure is required). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with CAD software and other engineering tools. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Familiarity with industry standards and technology developments. Desirable Attributes: Master's degree in Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience with Agile methodologies. Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
